Can’t You Smell That Smell?

OK, yeah, goplets stink anyway. But now I smell fear. Not the manufactured fear of black people, brown people, people wearing turbans, or (God forbid) of having to drive a smaller car. It’s the thing they’re afraid of most — losing big in just under two weeks. It’s kind of interesting, seeing yet another thing I wrote in FAR Future (Episode 22, April 7, 2013) happening well ahead of schedule:

The right-wing spins one way or another these days, like an old Chevy stuck in the mud, looking for traction wherever they can find it so they can get back in the race. They end up slinging mud everywhere, spinning their wheels, and sliding around. Their talking points still work with the most delusional among us, but not even their old crazy base is safe territory anymore.

Daily Kos calls it “Divide and Flail™.” Whatever you call it, it’s something I despaired of ever seeing happen: all the squealing about flag pins, the smears, the fear, the making crap up when they can’t find anything real… it’s not gone, it’s still happening every day, but only the delusionals and the crazies are listening. I’m sure it’s horrendous in the various swing states (and is from what I’ve heard); but here on Planet Georgia, we’re spared the worst of it. But even here, there are signs. Literally: someone posted a Jim Martin yard sign at an intersection where a Saxby sign stood just a few weeks ago, and some Neanderthal taped a “Vote for Socialism” tag over the big M on the sign. The Saxby yard signs have all but disappeared since the FAILout vote less than three weeks ago; I see a very real chance that enough wingnuts will vote for Buckley (the Libertarian), pulling down “Ignorance is” Chambliss and letting Martin into the Senate through the back door. That’s fine… whatever the reason (excepting death), fewer goplets in office is a Good Thing.

Nationally, the goplets have gone nuclear: their mouthpieces are trying to rip open the divide they’ve helped to create, separating their supporters into “the real America” and the rest of us… well, let’s feed them some rope:

Michele Bachmann (R-MN):
Then: “I’m very concerned that [Obama] may have anti-American views. … I’m focusing on Barack Obama and the people that he’s been associated with and I’m very worried about their anti-American nature.”
Now: “I never called all liberals anti-American, I never questioned Barack Obama’s patriotism, and I never asked for some House Un-American Activities Committee witch hunt into my colleagues in Congress.” (Um… you been punk’d and debunk’d!)

Robin Hayes (R-NC):
Then: “Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”
Now (after repeated denials, then confirmed by audio): “I genuinely did not recall making the statement … there is no doubt that it came out completely the wrong way … this is definitely not what I intended.”

And there’s the “socialist socialist socialist!” huffing and puffing from Palin and McCain’s staff… reminds me of the “n----r n----r n----r!” chants from an even uglier part of our history. Not to mention repeated attempts to selectively disenfranchise voters in Montana, Michigan, Indiana, and God knows where else. But both campaigns are fielding “armies of lawyers” to provide on-the-spot aid for any voter challenged at the polls, so even that tactic (which helped in Florida and Ohio the last two elections) may come to naught.

I just hope that another echo of FAR Future doesn’t come to pass. But I wouldn’t put it past them.

  1. Hey Far!

"And I approve this message".... If that's all they've got to say, then we are DOOMED. You bet, they're playing the American people for suckers...I'm not playing this game with them and will refuse to vote..why bother? why waste my time?

Oh, about that thought of war happening in oil rich regions... Remember my firend, when Desert Storm ended? It ended when the Republican Guard set fire to the wells...At that moment, Saddam Hussein drew a "stalemate" and claimed victory. We immeaditaly ceased fire and started putting those fires out.....The rest is history...

This opened the doors for American inspectors/personnel to enter the country on an interm basis...After Iraqis Freedom, we now are in the position of "occupying" that country.

The present adminstration has ALWAYS said, we are over there to stablize the region.....and that's EXACTLY what we're doing, we're containing it from the inside and not only from the outside... (there's no getting "us" out of there now!)

When (not if), Iran falls under American control, then it's checkmate, the game is over, as we'll have overwhelming control of the region from not only the outside (containment) but from inside, as well...That is, we'll put those fires out before they can even start them, (or at least that's the thought).

As far as Saudi Arbria goes, these people sold their souls to the devil, long ago... We "own" them outright.... They sold their "freedom" for protection, decades ago...

Aren't you glad you're an American, Far?!!! The "puppets" they put on display in this Presidential election, are indeed, just that...................

(Gee, I haven't wrote so much about "American politics" since I left Hanson's...But that's it (as I precieve it)in a nutshell, and nothing (again, NOTHING) else much matters...............

  3. I could have sworn I responded…

Yooper, as I remember it they torched the Kuwait fields as they retreated; they needed Red Adair and his crew to put some of them out. But I don't see why fights wouldn't take place near the objective… the invaders would come to seize the prize, the defenders would be there to stop them. It's not like everyone's going to get together and agree on a "neutral venue" like the Florida-Georgia game, after all. ;-)

Yeah, Boran, part of their Senate firewall is right here on Planet Georgia! You know they're desperate if they have to defend a seat here…

  4. Hey FAR,
I've been seeing some very interesting polling on the Chamshit race and it looks to be a tight one, perhaps even going into a Dec runoff?

What's your sense of the field right now? With Obama (amazingly) within striking distance too, it looks to be a wild night on 11/04 down your way. I'll be fascinated to hear what you have to say...

We early voted today and there were quite a few people there, but the lines moved quickly (that's IA efficiency for ya) so we did the deed with pride. Actually it took more time finding parking and plugging the meter than it did to actually vote. I'm considering doing a bit of poll watching at our precinct on the 4th ... we'll see. But our polling place is just a couple of blocks away so I could go over with my camera and see how it goes....

  5. Hey IVG!

The race is not always to the swiftist, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet. That's just a silly way of saying I would be (very pleasantly) surprised if Obama pulls off an upset. I'd have to stop referring to this as Planet Georgia.

As for the senate race, Chamblisssss wounded himself, perhaps mortally, with his vote on the FAILout. I'm guessing he figured he could still do his loyal Bush-bot act and get away with it, but he angered a lot of the eight-inch belt buckle set with that vote & it could cost him. I expect that it will go to a run-off; the question is which way the Buckley voters will go (Libertarians here usually go with the goplets in a run-off, but they might be willing to hope for a "better" goplet in 2014).

Good luck with the observer thing. On Planet Georgia, they've banned cameras & cellphones from the polling areas. I'm not sure if that's a way to keep people like me from taking a picture of my ballot, like I did the first election we had the Diebold garbage foisted on us.

He (or someone like him) would likely be back in 2014, but six years is a long time & the winds could be a changin' by then.

I have comment moderation on for posts over a week old, but that’s so I’ll see them.
