Spoooooky!

But hey, it's October, time to scour archive.org and post horror movies! Or I can just watch my 401K evaporate and scream in terror. :-DLarry Kollarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08317037795075278427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12954391.post-88656213451298759242008-10-08T23:14:00.000-04:002008-10-08T23:14:00.000-04:00Hey Far, I'll say one more thing about the Bible, ...Hey Far, I'll say one more thing about the Bible, to the believer, it is the word of God, the whole thing...

Yup, you're right about the market.. We're at that 30% drop now from last year, harldy happened in a weeks time. Then again we have the PPT (Plunge Protection Team).Heh! To be honest, I'm surprised the banking crisis is such a big deal… the run-up was all fairy dust, after all. As for the Dow, wait long enough and it will cease to exist. ;-) Actually, the 1929 crash erased about 1/3 of the Dow's value in a week, and 85% over 4–5 years… so if things were *that* dire, it would hit about 7200 short-term and 1700 in early 2013. I'll believe it when I see it happening.

There's more than one school of thought about the apocalypse. It seems that apocalyptic literature was the sci-fi of the ancient world — revealing (the meaning of "apocalypse") contemporary truths in a futuristic dystopian setting. Some interpretations of Revelations, for example, point to Nero as being the Beast (a formal rendering of his title in Latin adds up to 666, for example). Only the literalists (aka fundamentalists), or those closely associated with them, see it as unfulfilled prophecy. (It's always fun to ask "literal truth" folks about Song of Solomon! The verbal gyrations are most amusing.)

KB!!!! Had a good vacation, did you? I'm not terribly happy with this post as it stands, to me it jumps all over the place. I guess some FAR Future episodes do the same thing, huh? At least they're coherent (or at least I hope so!) over the entire story. I was thinking about replacing this post with a simpler, shorter one, but seeing as people are talking I'll let it stand. Maybe the shorter post will come later.Larry Kollarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08317037795075278427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12954391.post-37018518840934736772008-10-08T22:37:00.000-04:002008-10-08T22:37:00.000-04:00Ah, well. Heh, heh, kinda reminded me of the old days of Y2K...He learned a damn good lesson about people back then, how to tickle people's ears...Long emergency, my butt! Wish I could go back to the old Die-Off treads, when he was relating to anything but...

I still believe in John's theory of catabolic collapse (collapse, not decline, there IS a difference.) When I was looking for examples last spring, the Japanese collapse, that was followed by periods of recovery that was followed by further decline, is the perfect example...However, as many people have pointed out, that this was localized.... The roaring 90's, looked very much like the raoring 20's, back here in this country..

However, my combining "catabolic collapse" with "limits to growth" did not quite set well with him, or so it seemed. However, John did not disagree that the world (taken together) would not display a similiar pattern as did Japan when the Nikkei fell. Hope you caught that.. As you know, John doesn't like to hear anything about "interconnectiveness". However, as we're witnessing now, credit markets continue to freeze up throughout the world, because of it.

I'll likely write about chaotic theory of complex systems, later this winter... The "ripples in the pond" concept. Isn't that exactly what we're experiencing now?

As far as "imminente rapture" and Tribulation, isn't this the "Apocalyptic vision"?.. This was my point to Danby, how can you profess to be a Christian and NOT believe in the Apocalypse or Revelation? This might be something that you can ponder while you're folding those Sunday bulletins too......

Conception is instant Far, as is death..... There are no exceptions...

Thanks, yooperyooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11297259993402713368noreply@blogger.com
