This hit home yesterday... gas prices have stayed just under $3/gal here for a while now. At that price, if you use two gallons per day on your commute to work & back, working at home two days per week saves enough on gas to pay a $40 DSL bill each month.
So if you're trying to convince your spouse that you need broadband (or need to keep it), here’s your ammo.

Comments are welcome, and they don't have to be complimentary. I delete spam on sight, but that's pretty much it for moderation. Long off-topic rants or unconstructive flamage are also candidates for deletion but I haven’t seen any of that so far.
I have comment moderation on for posts over a week old, but that’s so I’ll see them.

Woof. I remember just a couple years ago it seemed expensive when gas was above $2/gal.
ReplyDeleteWe're over $3/gl here also. I talked to someone the other day that told me it was just a few cents difference and she didn't see what the problem was. Of course she has a brand new big volvo and money to burn.
ReplyDeleteCount yourself lucky. We're at approx. $4.60/gal. (that's in CanBucks, mind you), which works out to about $4.05 US/gal. We haven't seen $3.00 gas in years...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this is only the beginning. I give it two years, max, before the oil panic starts. Either one of the major Saudi oil fields will have a production collapse, or Bush or Iran will spaz-out and start something that won't be easily finished, or OPEC will have to admit that they just can't increase production to meet demand. If things get much worse in & around Lebanon, say if Iran gets involved, maybe two months.
ReplyDeleteSo if your line of work allows telecommuting, now would be a good time to set up your infrastructure (if you haven't already).
Bronwyn, I remember reading about how in the 70s and early 80s that people in Buffalo used to cross into Canada to get gas because it was so much cheaper. Then the tables turned and the Canadians were coming into Buffalo to get gas.
