Kneecapped

swollen right kneeI must have whacked my knee a good one the other day at the chicken houses. It started hurting a bit the night before last; it woke me up around 4:30 and I took a couple Advil to make it quiet down a bit. This evening, it was noticeably swollen and Mrs. Fetched finally realized I had some issues with it. She’s made me all comfy in the living room, dropped an ice pack on the knee, and even ran an extension cord so my MacBook would have da jooz.

I can kind of walk on it if I keep it straight. If I don't move the joint, it doesn't hurt that much.

The pain isn’t worth two lousy days away from the chickens. If I’d done it earlier, and gotten a week off? Maybe.

  1. Hi FAR.

Sorry to hear about the knee. I had that happen one time, and I have a real horror story about when I went to the hospital for it. Hope the knee gets to feeling better and you have a chicken free few days.

  2. Hey FAR! Gee, hope your knee is ok! Well, my friend, here it is just in time while you're laid-up.

    "Pasties"
    5 c. flour
    2 c. Crisco
    1 egg
    1 c. cold water
    2 t. vingar
Traditonal pasties are made with raw ground steak, onion, potatoe, and of course rudibaggy, cubed, mixed in a bowl and seasoned. Some people use msg.

While "stumbling around" Mrs. Yooper's cook book, I found another recipe you might be interested in. As you know she's Native and this is a time honored recipe.
    "Indian Fry Bread"
    2 c. all purpose flour
    1/4 c. nonfat dry milk
    1 1/2 t. baking powder
    3/4 t. salt
    3/4 t. sugar
    1 1/4 c. warm water
    Veg. oil
1.) Measure flour, nonfat dry milk, baking powder, salt and sugar into large mixing bowl. Make hole in center, pour in water. Mix just until throughly combined and smooth. Let stand for 20 minutes.
2.)Portion dough by heaping tablespoons onto floured board, roll to coat with flour. Fry in hot oil about 1 inch in fry pan. Turning once, until golden brown.

My favorite with Whitefish! Good Luck, FAR!

    Thanks, yooper

  3. FAR! I didn't realize that you did it DAYs ago & it's getting worse. I really think you should see a doctor. It's no exaggeration to say that knee injuries can cripple you.

  4. Hi guys!

FM, no horror stories, please. Yet. Let me get it fixed first. I've seen Mrs. Fetched recuperate from knee surgery, and her mom from two knee replacements, though.

Yooper, thanks for the recipes. I may sub turnips for rutabaga; I'm not sure the latter grows down here.

KB, "days ago" was like Friday. What with the holidays, I've got a doctor appointment. For Wednesday.

  5. Sorry to hear about the knee FAR! I hope Mrs. Fetched takes good care of you and waits on you hand and knee this evening at the Far Manor revelries!

I hope you're on the mend and will be back in action again soon ... this frigid weather is murder on poor achy joints (ask me!) Oh wait, it's not that cold where you are ... never mind! :-)

Hope you and the Manor brood have a pleasant evening and a great new year! As for TB, after reading about his latest exploits, well ... let me just express my sympathy to you and the Mrs.

But for tonight, I hope you enjoy it in a way that makes you all a bit happier to greet the new year. Movies will commence here in about an hour, with champagne around midnight and probably bed not too long after that!

  6. Feel better, Far. Knees are tricky. Stay off it as much as you can.

  8. After New Year's festoovities, which involved an exciting, action-packed bingo night with family & friends (hey, there were prizes on the line!), I had a couple glasses of champagne. Lo & behold, the knee gave me much less grief than nights previous!

Now some dour no-fun-allowed types might suggest that mostly staying off it and icing it through the day was what did it, but I'm sticking with the booze theory. The last few nights, I didn't partake & it hurt like an SOB. Last night, I partook, and it mostly behaved!
